LEARNING REFLECTIONS

One of my greatest learning opportunities has been in the form of working over the summer. I have worked the past four summers in a boat dealership called Texas Mastercraft. The amount of insight that I have been able to recieve from working hands on down on the floor helping to fix the boats to working along side the heads of the company and getting to see the inner-workings of what makes a business run day to day has greatly helped me understand real world business. For the first summer I worked in a wakeboard/surf proshop selling products ranging from t-shirts all the way to professional level wakeboard setups. I also helped maintain a quarterly inventory, daily sales reports, order new products, and manage an online storefront. The second summer I continued my work in the proshop but was promoted to also helping with on-the-water boat demonstrations, long-distance boat delivery, and post-sale boat orientations to help instruct new boat owners how to properly operate and maintain thier boats. The last two summers I have worked as a mechanic's assistant, working hands on with new and older boats in all aspects from pick up and delivery of customers boats to replacing damaged engines. Working as a ambiguous piece of the puzzle for Texas Mastercraft has really allowed me to learn and see some of the aspects of a business that can't be written into a text book, but must be experienced first hand. My experiences have benefitted me and continue to benefit me in almost every aspect of my education.
